First time to the festival + retreat and traveling from the US. I won't have space for a music stand (or a uke stand, probably.) Will I need those?
Anything you recommend to bring to make the trip enjoyable and get the most from it? (Asking anyone who has experience.)
In lieu of a stand, I've occasionally used a simple spring clip (slightly bigger than a laundry peg) and attached music sheets to the back of the chair in front of me. If you want to get fancy, glue a small magnet or a Velcro cable tie onto it to give you more ways to attach it.
Doesn't always work, but surprisingly useful and extremely cheap.
Barbara - as I'm travelling by car, I can bring a spare music stand to the Retreat which you could borrow (I have one for my tablet, which I tend to use indoors and a more sturdy one for outdoor use) - I also have a small table-top music stand. It's my first time there, but I'm sure there will be others that can help share 😉
I can’t believe I found Esther’s post from last year so quickly. Here’s the Facebook link.

If I were going (but can’t) I would take a high g uke, tuner, extra strings, extra battery for tuner, strap, my phone with ForScore app loaded with all my favourite songs, phone charger (adapter for UK plugs?). Barbara, please take lots of pictures and maybe even write a blog post so that I can experience it vicariously through you. If a music stand doesn’t fit in a suitcase, I guess you could always use one of those paper holder stands we used to park beside a typewriter.
Your uke. People will gladly let you use the songbook they are playing from.
Jeez I never thought about this. I was just gonna rock up with a couple of ukes. 1 wife 2 dogs and a campervan.
So.. Good question I await answers with interest..
